Holiday Packages
A holiday package is the term used to describe a holiday where all the parts of the holiday (i.e. travel and accommodation) are sold as a bundle. So, for example, here you will buy the holiday as a whole rather than paying for all of these elements separately. These kinds of holidays can work out cheaper than arranging all of the separate elements of your holiday individually and are a quick and convenient way of organising your break.
The actual elements of a holiday package will vary depending on the type of holiday you choose, the type of tour operator or travel agent you book through and how much you want to pay for the holiday. Common inclusions in a holiday package include:
- Travel to and from your destination - i.e. by plane, bus, train or ship.
- Transfers from arrival points to your hotel as necessary - i.e. coaches or taxis from an airport to your hotel.
- Hotel or self catering apartment costs and facilities - i.e. your accommodation costs will be paid for in advance as part of your package holiday charges.
- Food and drink - i.e. you may be offered anything from bed and breakfast to half board through to an all inclusive break where all food and drink is included in the price.
- Excursions/entertainment - i.e. some package holidays will offer evening entertainment and excursions during the day as part of your deal. Not all excursions/entertainment will necessarily be free however. Holidays to places where there is a significant attraction (such as Disneyland) may also have passes to the park built into the cost.
- Rental cars - i.e. some package holidays will also organise a rental car for you to use whilst you are on holiday.
There are various types of holiday packages to choose from. You could, for example, go on a traditional holiday where you are flown to a hotel and stay in that location for the duration of your holiday. As an alternative you could look at going on a package tour where you travel around or on a package cruise.
